About 1 in 5 children between the ages of  2 and 5 years will develop at least one cavity. The rate of tooth decay becomes higher as children get older according to the centers for disease, control and prevention. START EARLY;

Normally, dentist will recommends a child's first dental appointment should be soon after that first pearly little tooth appears at least by a child's first birthday. 

This visit is just like early pediatrician appointment for both toddler in the chair and for the parents. It's for us to provide education to the parent about how to take care of the teeth. 

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS;

Usually children has often fall or bang in to some thing, injuring their teeth or gums. In that case, if you have already established relationship with dental office earlier then it will be easy to contact them as your child is hurt or bleeding. 

You may think that their is always the hospital emergency room, but if it's a bigger emergency department, dental injury is not as high a priority and you'll be spending a lot of time in the waiting area. Your child also gets panic for treatment if your child previously visited clinic Or if you already knows your child may be able to offer advice over the phone and decide whether the youngster needs to be seen immediately. 

TOOTH BRUSH TIME:

In earlier days, their is a tradition of using a wash cloth to clean little teeth but isn't as effective. The newest baby tooth should be cleaned with a tooth brush. 

For younger children below 3yrs use a smear of fluoridated tooth paste about a size of a grain of rice and for children above 3 yrs and older think the size of green pea. Don't let the children to swallow tooth paste so under parents are the ones to put the toothpaste on the brush and supervise them while brushing. Make sure children should brush twice  day morning and night. 

OFF THE BOTTLE;

Too much use of bottles and sippy cups interfere with jaw development. Dental professionals usually recommend that youngster be weaned off a bottle by age 1, and that they stop sippy  particularly for juice of other sugary liquids by age 2. By age 3, children should stop using pacifiers or sucking their thumbs. While using a straw isn't as bad, access to unlimited sugary beverages poses a risk to oral health regardless of how it's consumed.
