Facial Fractures


Facial fracture occurs when there is a break in one / more of bones in face, like cheekbones, nose, jaw and bones around eyes.


#Symptoms of facial #fracture Usually include pain, swelling or tenderness and bruising.
Fracture of nose:
• Bleeding from nose.
• Difficulty in #breathing.
• Purplish #patch on skin due to leakage of #blood from rupture of blood #vessels.
• #Under eye discoloration.
• #Deviation of nasal septum
• #Block in one or both nostrils.
• Twist or #crook in shape of nose.
Fracture #around eyes:
• #Bulging or sunken eyeballs • #Blurry, decreased vision, double vision.
• Red patch or discoloration in white #part of eye • Difficulty in #eye movement.
• Discoloration under eyes.
• Swelling of #cheeks, forehead, under the eyes.
• Flat cheeks.
• Facial #numbness near the site of injury.

Fracture of jaws:
• Pain in #jaws while opening or closing #mouth.
• Difficulty in #eating, speaking and chewing.
• Unable to bring teeth together, improper bite.
• Numbness of chin or lower lip.
• Broken, loose and missing teeth.
• Bruise under #tongue.

As some facial fractures can get life-threatening, it is best to #consult your doctor as #soon as possible. Few fractures may cause problems with breathing, airway passages, and irreparable damage to vision or central nervous system.
