HOW TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH

blog

Brushing teeth regularly is important for both children and adults, as it helps to remove plaque and bacteria which can cause gum disease and tooth decay. It’s is not only for white smile and fresh breath; oral hygiene maintenance is important for your overall health.
For brushing choose a soft bristle toothbrush, as it can effectively remove plaque and debris from gums and between teeth. Hard bristle toothbrush can erode your tooth enamel.
Replace your toothbrush regularly after every three to four months or when the bristles get frayed and lose their shape.
Remember to always use fluoridated toothpaste as it not only helps remove plaque but also strengthens the tooth enamel. Your toothpaste should contain at least 1400ppm fluoride content.
Flossing your teeth is also important as it removes food particles that get trapped in between your teeth.
While brushing your teeth use a pea size amount of toothpaste as applying a lot can tempt you to spit and finish early.
You should brush your teeth gently in short circular motion with 45 degree angle at gum line. You must never brush across your teeth as you can irritate your gums. If you have any doubts regarding proper brushing technique, then it’s best to consult your dentist or hygienist.
Brush your teeth using the proper technique for at least 2 minutes twice a day.
Start brushing with your back teeth first then come towards front, also brush the inner surfaces of teeth. After brushing teeth gently brush the tongue to get rid of bacteria and bad breath.
You can finish your routine by rinsing your mouth with water, fluoridated mouthwash or lukewarm salt water.
